Халин Сергей Иванович — так звали отца Ипполита до монашеского пострига. Он родился 18 апреля 1928 года в селе Субботино-Солнцевского района Курской области. В феврале 1959 года в Успенском храме Псково-Печерского монастыря батюшка принимает постриг в мантию в честь священномученика Ипполита. 14 июня 1960 года отец Ипполит был рукоположен в сан иеромонаха. В 1966 году по благословению Патриарха Алексия I батюшка был направлен для несения послушания на Святую Гору Афон, где подвизался почти 18 лет. В 1983 году отец Ипполит вернулся в Россию уже духовно опытным старцем. В 1991 году архимандрит Ипполит назначен настоятелем Рыльского Свято-Николаевского мужского монастыря. За 11 лет под его руководством монастырь превратился в центр духовной жизни всероссийского масштаба. Со всей России и даже из-за рубежа, ехали люди, чтобы получить духовную помощь старца. По его молитвам были основаны пять скитов, несколько монастырей в Курской и Белогородской епархиях, а также на территории Северной Осетии. 17 декабря 2002 года архимандрит Ипполит мирно отошел ко Господу.
